The Three Mile Island accident in 1979 is called the most serious nuclear power plant accident in American history, with an accident grade of five. A very small amount of radioactive material leaked out, and more than 200,000 people were evacuated from the area.

Besides, the Chernobyl accident in 1986 is called the most serious nuclear power plant disaster in history, and it is internationally recognized as a seven level nuclear accident. It has caused nearly 100,000 deaths, 270,000 cancers and hundreds of billions of dollars of economic losses, which has had a significant impact on the development of international nuclear energy.

In this lecture, firstly, we will start with the system construction of the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant. Then, we will analyze the causes of the accident, introduce the accident sequence in detail, analyze some parameters, and describe the consequences of the accident. Additionally, we will learn about the knowledge of Chernobyl from the historical influence.
